Overview

Our client paralegal team spent an estimated 4,200 hours per year manually reviewing, classifying, and routing incoming legal documents. BlockLabz designed and built an AI-powered pipeline that reduced that to a 90-second automated process.

The Challenge

Legal documents vary enormously in structure, language, and intent. The pipeline needed to handle contracts, NDAs, court filings, and correspondence — each with different extraction requirements — while maintaining a full audit trail for compliance.

What We Built

  • Ingestion layer: Multi-format document intake (PDF, DOCX, scanned images with OCR)
  • Classification engine: Fine-tuned LLM classifier with 97.4% accuracy across 18 document categories
  • Extraction module: Structured data extraction (parties, dates, obligations, risk clauses)
  • Routing workflow: Automated assignment to correct team queues with priority scoring
  • Dashboard: Real-time pipeline monitoring, exception handling, and audit log UI

Results

Processing time dropped from 45 minutes to under 90 seconds per document. The system now handles 300+ documents per day autonomously, with paralegal review only on flagged exceptions.
